The cultural heritage of our country establishes a patrimony of fundamental importance, not only because of its intrinsic artistic value but also because it is a testimony that cannot be disregarded of a more or less recent history. This patrimony contributes to the formation of the Italian and European identity.
The Ministry for Arts and Culture has always been committed to the enhancement of this patrimony as well as rendering it to a public that is in continual growth with a growing awareness of its treasures. Along with this commitment, another aim of primary importance is to promote a historical and critical reflection on the interwoven scheme of relations between people and countries that has developed through time. These people and countries recognize the common classical and Christian tradition as the roots of their identity.
In this scope, the Ministry has supported the establishment of the National Committee for the Millennium Celebration of the foundation of the St. Nilo Abbey. The cultural initiatives that the Committee intends to promote represent a constant and lasting point of reference in the dynamics of the advances in scientific knowledge.
